Margaret Reiche

Belated birthday greetings to Margaret Reiche  who celebrated her 99th birthday on 20th October 2021.  Happy Birthday Margaret.

Andy Smith

Andy Smith was born in Airntully on the 22nd October 1931 and now celebrating his 90th birthday.  Andy was involved in Church and Hall Committees and enjoyed playing golf and badminton.  Andy lived in Mill Street until he moved to Ayr but still regularly visits family and friends. Many congratulations on your 90th birthday.

April 2021

Fred McKerchar

On April 8 2021 Fred McKerchar aged 70 a much loved father to Kirsten and Julie, brother to Anne and father-in-law to Tommy, passed away peacefully at his home.  Fred was predeceased by his dear wife Liz, much cherished grandparents to Lucy, Mary, Amy, Jack and Naomi.  Fred will be deeply missed by both his family and many friends.  Due to the current situation a private funeral and burial will take place on April 26 2021 with limited attendance which is with much regret to all who knew and loved Fred.  Donations if desired to Neuroendocrine Cancer UK.

Eddie O'Brien

Peacefully on Thursday April 8 2021 at Ashdene Court Crieff, Eddie O'Brien (retired joiner) formerly of Stanley and Glencarse beloved husband of the late Jessie, loving dad to Dennis and Susan, Gary and Shirley, a dear grandad, great-grandad, uncle and brother.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

March 2021

Hamish Haggart

The death of Hamish on 11th March 2021 has been reported in the Aviva Quarterly Pensioners Magazine.  Hamish, formerly of Russell Street was living in Aviemore.  Apart from National Service in the Royal Army Pay Corps he spent all of his working life with General Accident in Perth.  

Ruby Mills

Suddenly but peacefully at Beech Manor Care Home Blairgowrie on Friday 26th March Robina (Ruby) Mills formerly of County Place Stanley, loving daughter of the late Margaret, devoted friend of Allan and the late Helen, cherished aunt to Anne, Lorna, Sandra and Allison.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Robert (Rab) Welsh

Robert (Rab) Welsh passed away peacefully on Friday 12th March.  He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Morag and was a loving brother to Margaret; Willie; Tom and the late May.  Rab lived in Bridge of Earn but grew up in Stanley living in Store Street and worked at Stanley Mills and Caithness Glass.  Rab often reminisced abut his time in Stanley with some of his mates "Buff" Harrington; Eck O'Brien; Norman (Barney) Barron; Big Bob Robertson; Joe Smith and his brother in law Arthur Duncan.  Daft but great times was often a comment used.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Ivan Haggart

Thanks once again to Ivan Haggart for his very generous donation of 250.00 towards my costs in leasing the Stanley website domain name and webspace from IONIS.  This wonderful contribution should cover the above costs until 2023.  Your generosity is much appreciated Ivan.

February 2021

Harry Lennon

It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Lennon announces his sudden passing on 25th Fenruary 2021 at the age of 70.  Harry passed away peacefully at his home in Perth.  Pappa to daughters Johanna and Julie,  Brother to Kate, Margaret, Steven, Lydia, Richard, David, Peter and Richard.  Uncle to William, Michael, Michelle, Trevor, Louise, Andrew, Micaela, Matthew, Scott, Ross, Neil, Jeanette and Dwayne. Grandpa to Holly-Rose, William and Darcey.  Harry grew up in Athole Drive, Stanley and lived most of his life in Scone.  He was a firefighter at Perth Fire Station for 30 years, a keen gardener and a talented artist.  Due to current restrictions the funeral is private. Harry was known and loved by many.

Suddenly at Rivendell Care Home Birnam on Tuesday 2nd December 2020, Ruby aged 86 (formerly of Manse Cres and County Place Stanley), beloved wife of the late Ernie, loving mum to Erna, Avril, Ruth and the late John, a dear granny, great-granny, sister aunt and friend.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Ray Northcott

Ray, formerly of Murray Place Stanley passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Gloucester Royal Hospital at the age of 73 on Saturday 7th November 2020.  He leaves behind his wife of 53 years Sandra, son Roy and daughter Karen as well as three lovely grandchilden. He will be sorely missed.

Frederick William (Fred) Pirie

Peacefully in the loving care of the Woodlands on 24th November 2020, Fred aged 86 years.  The devoted husband of the late Joan, much loved dad of Steven, Ian and the late Philip and cherished grandad of Dawn and Simon. The former Accrington Stanley player made the move to Accrington in 1954 when he was scouted from Stanley Perthshire.  Fred was born in Coupar Angus on 19th January 1934 and was a trialist with Forfar Athletic before moving South.  In his spare time Fred enjoyed fishing and walking and he enjoyed a trip to the bookies to have a flutter on the horses.

David (Terry) Clark

Peacefully at Ninewells Hospital after a short illness David (Terry) aged 73 years (former Royal Marine and Publican of Stanley) son of the late David and Edna, brother of Euan and brother in law of Vivienne and uncle of Euan and Kirsty. Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Maureen Helen Scott nee West

Peacefully after a short, but bravely fought illness at Perth Royal Infirmary on Monday 28th September 2020, Maureen Helen aged 76, beloved wife of Campbell, much loved mother of Philip and Erin, beloved mother-in-law of Fleur and devoted granny of Logan and Callan, a loved sister of Lorna, Sandra, Avril and Pam.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Gilbert (Gib) Petrie

Peacefully at Perth Royal Infirmary on Tuesday 15th September 2020, Gilbert (Gib) aged 91 years (Shielhill Farm Stanley).  A dear brother of Margaret and the late David and Elma, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle and a treasured family friend of Steven.  Funeral private due to the current restrictions.

Congratulations to Ivan and Mary Haggart who celebrated their Diamond (60th) Wedding anniversary on 4th July 2020 with a small party at their daughter Gillian's house owing to Covid 19 restrictions. They both now live in Toronto, Canada having emigrated there in 1966.

Arthur Williamson

Arthur Williamson the last of the Williamson football brothers formerly of Manse Crescent passed away at Craigie Knowes Nursing Home on 26th June 2020 one month short of his 90th birthday. He played 287 games for Southend United between 1955 to 1961.  He holds the record for the most consecutive games at Southend (over 200) and it is doubtful if this record will ever be beaten.  He also played for Clyde.  Apart from football he was an excellent golfer playing off scratch and plus handicaps.  He was the Club Championship match play champion at Craigie Hill Golf Club on five occasions and also won the foursomes trophy twice as well as being a three time winner of the Hill Thomas Trophy.  If that wasn't enough he won the badminton doubles on the opening of the Bell's Sport Centre in 1968 at the age of 38.  His partner was 18 years old Alan Pirie also from Stanley and they repeated the win the next year too.  A true sportsman.  His wife May (nee O'Brien) also from Manse Crescent predeceased him on 20th April 2011.  Arthur is survived by his two daughters Rhona and Corinne. 

Congratulations to Stanley couple Dod and Jo-Anne Jolly (nee Lennon) who celebrated their Golden Wedding on 6th June.  They were married in Stanley Parish Church on 6th June 1970.  Best man was Gordon Jolly and Bridesmaid was Eileen Brunton.  Dod and Jo-Anne now live in Luncarty.

Neil Ferguson

Neil Ferguson who used to live next to the old  Surgery in Perth Road (Feus Brae)  opposite the tennis courts would like to hear from anyone who remembers him.  Neil and his family emigrated to Australia in 1965 when he was 12 years old.

Billy Morrow


Billy Morrow who now lives in Fife is trying to contact an old school friend Fifi O'Brien who he lost contact with some years ago.

Anyone who remembers  me and wants an excuse to escape  the wife for the evening  and  have  a small  alcoholic  beverage I would love to hear from you    Lived in Stanley from 63 till 72  and if you know me  you will remember I was football daft and still am.  Working in Perth now but live in Cowdenbeath with my wife of 25 years.   Love to get to know my old school pals again.  It's been 35 years.  Where has the time gone?    Love to talk about the best days of  my life and they were spent in Stanley as a boy.
