Callum Davidson - Kelso Laddie 2022

You may be wondering why we are including an article about Kelso but there is a good reason for this.  Callum's parents Dougie and Kay (nee Grant) are from Stanley and his Grandparents on both sides as well.  His Grandmother Isobel Grant still lives in the village.  Callum moved to Kelso with his parents when he was a toddler and he has just been selected as the 2022 Kelso Laddie. This is a great honour and a prestigious position to hold.  He is also the first Kelso Laddie to be elected who was not born in Kelso.  He will have a very busy time during Kelso Civic Week in July and will represent the town at all the other Border festivals.  Callum is pictured with his aides below.  For more info on this Kelso tradition:

Brian and Marian Blair

Congratulations to Brian and Marion Blair who will celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary (Blue Sapphire) on 11th May 2022.  As part of their celebration they will be travelling over from Canada to Stanley for a holiday and are looking forward to meeting up with old friends.  Happy Anniversary to you both.

Harry Blair

Happy Birthday to Harry Blair who will celebrate his 90th birthday with family and friends in Canada on 10th April 2022.  Harry's Dad Harry Senior had the Garage on Perth Road before Willie and Stewart Buchan.  The Blair family emigrated to Canada in the early 1950's.  Harry was the Senior Boy Dux at Stanley School in 1945, his brother Brian was the Senior Boy Dux in 1950 and their sister Jean the Senior Girl Dux in 1952.  Brian came over from Canada for the 070707 reunion.  Happy Birthday Harry.

February 2022

Agnes Allan (nee Lennon)

Peacefully at Alexander House Care Home, Fife on February 7th Agnes (late of Stanley and John Dewars) aged 88 years beloved wife of the late George, loved sister of the late Helen, Sam, Peggy, Robert and Evelyn, dearest aunt and great-aunt.  Funeral at Dunfermline Crematorium on February 24th at 1.15pm.  (My thanks to Jo-Anne Jolly (nee Lennon) her niece for bringing this to our notice).

John & Valerie Kennedy

Congratulations to John and Valerie Kennedy (nee Wells) who celebrated their Diamond (60th) Wedding anniversary on 16th December 2021.  They were married at Stanley Tower Church.  They celebrated the occasion with friends and family in The Royal Scots Club Edinburgh.

Margaret Reiche

Belated birthday greetings to Margaret Reiche  who celebrated her 99th birthday on 20th October 2021.  Happy Birthday Margaret.

Andy Smith

Andy Smith was born in Airntully on the 22nd October 1931 and now celebrating his 90th birthday.  Andy was involved in Church and Hall Committees and enjoyed playing golf and badminton.  Andy lived in Mill Street until he moved to Ayr but still regularly visits family and friends. Many congratulations on your 90th birthday.

April 2021

Fred McKerchar

On April 8 2021 Fred McKerchar aged 70 a much loved father to Kirsten and Julie, brother to Anne and father-in-law to Tommy, passed away peacefully at his home.  Fred was predeceased by his dear wife Liz, much cherished grandparents to Lucy, Mary, Amy, Jack and Naomi.  Fred will be deeply missed by both his family and many friends.  Due to the current situation a private funeral and burial will take place on April 26 2021 with limited attendance which is with much regret to all who knew and loved Fred.  Donations if desired to Neuroendocrine Cancer UK.

Eddie O'Brien

Peacefully on Thursday April 8 2021 at Ashdene Court Crieff, Eddie O'Brien (retired joiner) formerly of Stanley and Glencarse beloved husband of the late Jessie, loving dad to Dennis and Susan, Gary and Shirley, a dear grandad, great-grandad, uncle and brother.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

March 2021

Hamish Haggart

The death of Hamish on 11th March 2021 has been reported in the Aviva Quarterly Pensioners Magazine.  Hamish, formerly of Russell Street was living in Aviemore.  Apart from National Service in the Royal Army Pay Corps he spent all of his working life with General Accident in Perth.  

Ruby Mills

Suddenly but peacefully at Beech Manor Care Home Blairgowrie on Friday 26th March Robina (Ruby) Mills formerly of County Place Stanley, loving daughter of the late Margaret, devoted friend of Allan and the late Helen, cherished aunt to Anne, Lorna, Sandra and Allison.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Robert (Rab) Welsh

Robert (Rab) Welsh passed away peacefully on Friday 12th March.  He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Morag and was a loving brother to Margaret; Willie; Tom and the late May.  Rab lived in Bridge of Earn but grew up in Stanley living in Store Street and worked at Stanley Mills and Caithness Glass.  Rab often reminisced abut his time in Stanley with some of his mates "Buff" Harrington; Eck O'Brien; Norman (Barney) Barron; Big Bob Robertson; Joe Smith and his brother in law Arthur Duncan.  Daft but great times was often a comment used.  Funeral private due to current restrictions.

Ivan Haggart

Thanks once again to Ivan Haggart for his very generous donation of 250.00 towards my costs in leasing the Stanley website domain name and webspace from IONIS.  This wonderful contribution should cover the above costs until 2023.  Your generosity is much appreciated Ivan.

February 2021

Harry Lennon

It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Lennon announces his sudden passing on 25th Fenruary 2021 at the age of 70.  Harry passed away peacefully at his home in Perth.  Pappa to daughters Johanna and Julie,  Brother to Kate, Margaret, Steven, Lydia, Richard, David, Peter and Richard.  Uncle to William, Michael, Michelle, Trevor, Louise, Andrew, Micaela, Matthew, Scott, Ross, Neil, Jeanette and Dwayne. Grandpa to Holly-Rose, William and Darcey.  Harry grew up in Athole Drive, Stanley and lived most of his life in Scone.  He was a firefighter at Perth Fire Station for 30 years, a keen gardener and a talented artist.  Due to current restrictions the funeral is private. Harry was known and loved by many.

Neil Ferguson

Neil Ferguson who used to live next to the old  Surgery in Perth Road (Feus Brae)  opposite the tennis courts would like to hear from anyone who remembers him.  Neil and his family emigrated to Australia in 1965 when he was 12 years old.

Billy Morrow


Billy Morrow who now lives in Fife is trying to contact an old school friend Fifi O'Brien who he lost contact with some years ago.

Anyone who remembers  me and wants an excuse to escape  the wife for the evening  and  have  a small  alcoholic  beverage I would love to hear from you    Lived in Stanley from 63 till 72  and if you know me  you will remember I was football daft and still am.  Working in Perth now but live in Cowdenbeath with my wife of 25 years.   Love to get to know my old school pals again.  It's been 35 years.  Where has the time gone?    Love to talk about the best days of  my life and they were spent in Stanley as a boy.
