Hi, I just stumbled on your wonderful website. My grandfather, David Kennedy was born in Stanley. His mother was the daughter of Hugh Kennedy and Jane nee MacPherson. My grandfather was born illegitimate and it has been passed down that his father was William McLaren. The McLaren part I believe is correct because my grandfather added McLaren to his surname when he immigrated to South Africa (where my father and I were both born). My dad has passed away and some years ago on a visit to Stanley he met Beth Kennedy who I believe was his second cousin. I have tried every avenue that I can think of but have not been able to positively identify "William" (if the first name is correct). Has anyone got any ideas? I do have a picture of "William" and some photos of my grandfather that I can share

Jim Donaldson is to be congratulated on the new website. A lot of work has gone into producing the new format. Old photos and stories of Stanley are always very welcome. If you have any please do not hesitate to pass them on.

Well 20 years after I built the original UNOFFICIAL Stanley website we now have an updated version and my grateful thanks to In-Studio Hartlepool for leading me through this. They have been absolutely magnificent after having been let down elsewhere. I hope you enjoy the new website and take the time to share your stories and photos. Two years after the first website went online we had the village reunion 070707 with Stanleyites from all over the world attending. Will the same thing happen two years from now?
