(You possibly can't make out the name on Alan's Navy cap ribbon on this photo but it's HMS Obedient - click on the ship's name for info on the ship). Being ex RN I can see by Alan's badge he was an electrician in the Navy and he also has two Good Conduct Badges denoting at least 8 years service.
